Afraid the nicknames are right out.
I shall be having some distractions from posting the immediate future. It appears I have a rather nasty cancer. Rather inconveniently timed. Have to do some surgical intervention this week and the Drs are a bit vague. This will distract from my MENA ranting and the like.
Apologies in advance. Afraid this has not been a terribly brilliant day. Now, I think I am going to go get really drunk with some old friends of mine.

Shit. I never know what to say at times like this but that rather sums it up for me.

Not dead yet. Not dead yet.

Ah well, I have enough nicknames for you as it is.
Hope all goes well this week, we'll be here when you get back.

Well, that is bad news. I was rather looking forward to calling you "Collungsbury."
I know you don't want any sympathy so let's just say you've gotten my happy hour off to a rocky start this evening.
[Black humor] On the plus side, you now have an excellent excuse to push the Fund for an early payout on the carry. [/Black humor]

Damn, Col - sorry to hear about your situation.

Seconded. And fucking vague doctors, treating adults like children.
Well, stubbornness can be a blessing as well as a curse. Best of luck with the coming months.

Good luck mate.

Yeah, good luck.

no words express what i feel. if i was a believer, i'd pray for you, and light candles & stuff ...
do what the doctors tell you.
looking forward to spar with you soon.
cheers mate,

The lawyer in me advises you to hold out for a better diagnosis, but if necessary, go ahead and settle for TB, or if negotiations go badly, settle for TB and emphysema. But alas, medical science allows for no such negotations, so follow the official advice, do some independent research, and recover through a hasty, not too burdensome and effective therapy.
And get back here soon, you know this "work" stuff just cuts far too much into my laying around time.

Oh shit.
Really nothing else to say. Just fk and shit to the google plex.

Well I will try to keep you informed, to the extent that is in any way vaguely interesting. Afraid next week the precise nature of my fuckedness will be further defined. Unusual binary choices here; if it's one choice I am only slightly fucked and likely to be fine afterall. If its the other, well, I'm seriously fucked.
It does concentrate the mind, this. In a most unpleasant way.
In any event, still alive, but the bloody bleeding is back, which is most unpleasant and disgusting.

at least they haven't restricted your access to fine cuban comfort yet. let me know if they do and i'll help sneak some into the ward for you.
speedy recovery mate

Well, damn. There will be glasses raised in London tonight to the speedy return of your good health.
Posted by: duaneg at December 16, 2005 12:24 AM
oh, crap. hoping that you are only slightly (and temporarily) f'ed, to your terminology, and be fine shortly thereafter.
Posted by: kao_hsien_chih at December 16, 2005 01:58 AM
Damn.
Fight the good fight Col. I'm in no mood to run a " Best of Collounsbury's inflammatory comments" memorial post this holiday season.

Not dead yet indeed! Sorry to hear it. I'm sure you're getting good care, but don't rule out relocating if you need to. Stay away from overly stressful internet discussions... unless they help. Get well.

Not dead yet indeed! Sorry to hear it.
I know what you meant but this was still the most humorous gaffe I've seen all day!
Posted by: Anonymous at December 16, 2005 05:36 PM
Yes, I realized it right after I posted it... it was late!
Posted by: zurn at December 16, 2005 05:45 PM
Col, best of luck. Do keep posting, as you can, even intermittantly. If you end up getting treatment at the excellent hospitals in NYC, shoot me an email; I'll sneak you in some rum.

salamtak. that's a real bitch. hope it's the easy kind.
Posted by: praktike at December 17, 2005 09:47 AM
Take care of yourself buddy.
Or at least spend an absurd amount of money to make sure someone else does :). This is when the American plutocracy does come into its own, afterall.
Best of luck.

Still alive, not dead, although now with a big ass hole in my chest. Fucking tumours.
Posted by: The Lounsbury at December 18, 2005 01:15 AM
you should look at the hole as an opportunity. it could provide a more direct avenue for cuban comfort consumption.
Posted by: drdougfir at December 18, 2005 01:34 AM
"...a big ass[]hole in my chest".
Hey, I am nowhere NEAR your chest.
I hope this removed the main threat and biopsied a nice prognosis. The hole will heal; the tumor can be fought. Enjoy the rest and the psychoactive drugs.

... although now with a big ass hole in my chest.
Just leaves that much more space for your BIG heart :D.
Glad to hear you're still sucking oxygen with the rest of us schmoes.
