Random Thoughts - News
Now that I have been back in the United States since a month and a half, a random observation.
That random observation is that US TV and in particular news has become atrocious, far worse than I recall. Bloody entertainment TV disguised as news. Even CNN and HN.
What is odd is international CNN has a rather better standard.
It renders, for me, ironic, the fulminations I read online from US bloggers about foriegn news sources.

Re: CNN US vs. int'l, local market is far less sophisticated and is uniformly interested in human interest stories about dogs saving families from burning houses, etc.
Somewhat off topic, I recently became related by marriage to one of the lovely female anchors on CNN int'l.

Quite right re the 'human interest' rubbish, and I grant that the exceedingly parochial nature of the US market probably drives this.
Interesting regarding the anchors, I think I can guess which but I shall refrain.

Amuse me? Not at all, not a bad match. Same root you know.

It is not only the TV news - the print media is mediorce and overly reliant on wire services rather than having their own correspondents.

What is odd is international CNN has a rather better standard.
Why is that odd? International viewers tend to be better informed than the average non-passport-holding merkin, and also have a range of news channels to choose from, such as the BBC.
