Retarded

I have to say, this is completely retarded. An American congressman, "Chris Smith, Republican chair of the House of Representatives committee on human rights, ... called on the Bush administration to categorise Germany as a “tier three” country that would make it eligible for US sanctions under anti-trafficking legislation" tied to German preparations for the World Cup including dealing with entirely legal prostitution.

Barrett Duke, of the Southern Baptist Convention, said that one ‘‘would have though that Germany would have renounced slave labour forever, considering her past abuses’’.

Nazi comparisons? Good grief. 'Retarded' isn't a strong enough word.

The Religious Policeman has some very amusing coverage of the lengths one German hotel is going to to purify itself for religious fundamentalists (albeit Saudis not Americans in this instance):

In casting stones at Germany, Barrett Duke is relying on the universally acknowledged fact that there are no prostitutes in the US (excepting legislatures and the USSC, of course).

I think Smith is over the top, as well as those who would dare to reach the height of absurdity in comparing this with anything from Hitler's time.

However, personal experience of mine own in South Korea, Malaysia, Japan and my home city of Miami, Florida force me to consider the plight of poor females who are promised or told they would be maids, waitresses, models and students and arrive in their new "home" country only to find something entirely different and much more terrifying.

I would hope Germany would take this opportunity to bust some of these pimps and enablers who hold (i wouldn't say 80% as I read on National Review Online and the WAPO, but a good 50%) many young women against their will and use threats and violence to make them submissive.

Making Germany a Tier 3 country is highly counterproductive IMHO though.

Making Germany a Tier 3 country is highly counterproductive IMHO though.
It's more than counterproductive, it's barking mad and droolingly stupid.

Only goes to show what happens when infantile, know-nothing provincials take over political parties. (Well of course this will go nowhere, but the US Right is in need of a purge. Badly in need of a purge. Perhaps with not so much incessant bickering as happened in the UK or the beheadings, but still).

I have to say btw after reading DW's comments on the dubiousness of the 'policeman' actual Saudiness, I haven't been able to read the pandering site again.

It did have interesting commentary, but I came to the conclusion it's an expat fake. I prefer my expat whinging on straight up and out in the open like mine and SD.

I agree. Something strikes me odd about that website. But it can be amusing sometimes.

dear all,

as shown by farah (of farahssowaleef at blogspot fame) and abu sinan (of the blog of that name), the RP is not saudi, and most likely not arab either.

his blog is good but the fact that he claims to be saudi when he's not & that 99% of his commenters belong to the islamophobe crowd isn't exactly endearing him/his blog to me.

I agree its in need of a purge, badly. The type of leaders who lead crusades against gay television characters, long-standing allied nations and the evils of other religions should most certainly not remain in charge for much longer.

The good news is they're overreaching... badly (and also splintering, the more reserved and intelligent ones like Sam Brownback, Rick Warren and Frank Wolf are the "new breed" of evangelical). The bad news is we have nearly 3 more years of this insanity before they get frozen out by a centrist GOP presidental candidate.

While I can't say for _sure_ that he's a fake, I know he makes a habit of malliciously editing comments left on his blog. And then he bans you if you call him out for it. Not exactly the behaviour of an honest soul, IMO.

Yeah. That rather confirms it for me.

Also the phrasing "Somali terrorist" - warlord lots of things to call Mohammed Farah Aidid, but terrorist says someone with native born US or maybe UK sensibilities.

Welcome by the way.
