Kas al Alam - World Cup and Arab Adverts

One item my newfound activity (besides that my after chemo strength is far, far lower than I though, six months of toxic living hell having an apparently significant effect on physical capacity. I suspect me JV partner will be disappointed with "the Extraterrestrial") has gotten back into is catching some Arab Sat - specifically MBC - broadcasting for the world cup.

A word: Saudi Ownership has never, ever been more pitifully displayed than those sad faux-Pan Arab football advert songs. The KSA team - despite the mega flag with all the little Arab flags sewn round - ain't the hope of any rational Arab football fan. Tunis, althoug injuries and group strench make this a long one, and France (Zinadine) are the rational choices.

Your whacky face painting bus trip musical numbers, they are just going to be painful when Tunis shuts you out, and the rest of the group crushes you.

Oh sshhh please don't jinx it! If the Saudis win the Tunis game I will curl up into a foetal position and wail like a peasant who has just lost her wee bairn.

Ok it was close. Even you have to admit.

Well they drew, but still,

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ouch that was close.

Saudis still suck, deliver intolerably stupid adverts via their captive stations and are going to be crushed by Spain. Ukraine, who knows?

Tunisia, man, pitiful. Much better team than that sloppy play.

"Saudis still suck, deliver intolerably stupid adverts via their captive stations and are going to be crushed by Spain. Ukraine, who knows?"

That maybe so, but they still had a chance to qualify had they beaten Tunisia, then drawn with Ukrayina, and were beaten by Spain. Now though, no chance.

What about that pathetic celebration after the saudis scored the second goal? You would have thought they'd already won the world cup.

As for the 'go green' songs, they are now a saudi quadrennial tradition to be endured. A bit like the eurovision.
Along with some people suddenly 'discovering' that the english flag has a cross on it and calling for boycott.

I wanted anybody but Al-Jaber to score, the man already has an ego the size (and the content) of the Empty Quarter.

"the man already has an ego the size (and the content) of the Empty Quarter."

Agreed. Besides, he's just too old and skinny to be of any threat.

Here's a little nugget for Tunisia supporters (i.e. L) lifted from the BBC website:

"Tunisia have now failed to win nine consecutive World Cup matches, the worst current run by a 2006 World Cup participant. Saudi Arabia have now extended their winless streak to eight World Cup matches."

At least it's someone else breaking the records this time.

Well, I will go out on a limb and say that KSA will outdo Tunisia on this score (although the Maghrebine teams seem to live to choke).
