And I was beginning to miss this sort of thing
A fine announcement regarding air travel, bloody scared rabbits will soon have people flying naked - and now it's London flights as well:
INCREASED SECURITY MEASURES FOR FLIGHTS
TO/FROM U.K. and U.S. - valid with immediate effect
Dear Passenger,
Due to planned and finally disabled terrorist acts on flights from U.K. to U.S at LHR Airport the security measures in Great Britain and U.S. have been severely increased resulting in following major impacts on all carrier operations to/from U.K. and U.S.:
Passenger are not allowed to take any hand baggage on board an aircraft, except following specified items:
pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents
travel documents as passports and tickets
personal medical supplies required for the flight, except in liquid form unless verified as authentic (passengers can be forced to personal consumption if requested)
spectacles and sun glasses without cases
contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (only unboxed items allowed, see below)
keys (but no electrical key supplies)
Passengers traveling with infants are allowed to take along baby food and milk (expect accompanying passengers to be forced to taste contents)
All passengers are hand searched, footwear and other items are x-rayed
1. All liquids are removed from passengers - NO liquids or gels of any kinds will be permitted in carry-on baggage.
This includes: all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel and other items of similar consistency
2. Pushchairs and walking aids are x-rayed - only airport provided equipment may pass screening points
3. Obligatory secondary search/screen at the boarding gate

Heathrow sucks anyway.
Perhaps Amsterdam and Frankfurt airports are maintaining some semblance of sanity.
Paris...well, I hate CDG too.

Upon closer inspection, I note they've banned mascara, lipgloss, liquid foundations, cheese in pressurized containers, pudding, gel-filled bras (!)...

comedians have been joking for a long time about naked airplane flights. i wonder how long until everyone is drugged, put into sleeping tubes, and loaded into the plane like cordwood.

Mothers seem to be particulalry grossed out about having to consume their baby's milk. Suppose it can be unsavoury if it's pumped natural milk and not formula.

"... cheese in pressurized containers"
Whaaaat ?? Cheez whiz is banned ? God Damn them all to hell ! ;o)

mark, don't worry about it. you can make cheese out of a mother's breast milk.

"Mothers seem to be particulalry grossed out about having to consume their baby's milk. Suppose it can be unsavoury if it's pumped natural milk and not formula."
I can't wait til the screeners demand the right to taste-test "natural" milk, especially, of course, if contained in a gel-filled bra.
9/11: now etched in our collective mammaries.

Bloody hysteric over-reaction. The lot of it.

I wonder what sort of premium people would pay to fly anonymously and with absolutely no search. It could be a viable airline model.
as for making people consume liquids they're taking on planes: thats idiotic. if a person is determined enough, they can drink just about anything.

but why on earth can't I bring a book?

And Dr Fir wins the insight award:
as for making people consume liquids they're taking on planes: thats idiotic. if a person is determined enough, they can drink just about anything.
Well at least they're going to deter the suicide bomber with squeemish tendancies or a worry about future cancer risk should he back out....

Thought inspired by continuous fever, if a father tasted his wife's milk would that then make him her brother?
Posted by: Meph at August 17, 2006 12:00 AM
Well, recalling 3mqti fi l-7dithe, I do believe you might profitably use this fever to reflect on the issues.

let's start Aqoul Air: the only airline that doesn't require ID or security screening. Sure, a terrorist might try to blow up the plane (or put snakes on the plane... anyone else see jon stewart's interview of samule l jackson last night? anyone?), but you'll be able to blow him up first because every passenger is allowed two cary on automatic weapons and five hand guns.

Dougfir: I saw it. Meh. I prefer Stewart when he interviews assholes rather than friends.
I love the Aqoul Air idea.
regarding cordwood: Let's do it Alien-style! Put everyone to sleep. Now red-eye flights will become prime commodity.

I was just saying the other night that perhaps we ought to have the choice - say, one out of five LHR-JFKs should be reserved for those of us willing to take the infinitesimal risk of terrorists attacking it, and exempted from extra suckurity and surveillance measures.

Bingo. Alex wins.
I'll even allow for a plane with a self-destruct if it permits me not to go through the pointless idiocy of having my shoes x-rayed to make the pants wetters feel better.
