Stupid American IPR anti-piracy Hollywood fellating idiocy
Goddamit, all me DVD sources now have those flimsy plastic envelops and the fixed stalls have a crappy selection right now.
Of course the lower quality wandering vendors are still all around.
Why all this? Because some newly arrived ignorant fool in the US G services here has gone on a jihad about movie pirating - no doubt due to idiotic whinging on by some Holywood scum looking to wring some few more cents out of this market - and the local authorities now feel they have to make a show of suppressing pirated DVDs.
Won't last, and all it is doing is pressing the supply into the moving rather than fixed vendors, and annoying the fuck out of me. Morons. Focus on rich markets, the marginal gain here is far below the cost.

Speaking of which, saw The Last King of Scotland a few weeks back. I think you might enjoy it.
Also, the new 007 movie looks quite good (haven't seen yet). Bond apparently has a slight conscience now, like our man Bourne.

You recommend I waste hours downloading movies when simple direct piracy is generally more convenient?

L, I gather you're in Rabat. If so, get in touch...

Oh, then US embassies across the region appear to have intimated their allies/poodles to launch a war against indigenous IPR piracy. Moroccan police has closed down the major retailing centers for pirate DVDs here in Rabat (they wouldn't dare do that in Casablanca, where retailers are more numerous and more vocal - since independence, Casablanca has rioted many times, but never Rabat).
OK, it conforms with the statute book but it is really stupid: the revenues for American movies shown in the very few cinema theatres here would struggle to reach a couple of million of dollars per annum. No official DVDs are sold here, as people wouldn't afford the official price. And I can't think that the sending rights for the local TV channels bring Hollywood much confort either. So it's really a gratuitous way of making the average Moroccan's life more miserable to no immediate benefit for US rights holders - btw a symbol of US policies in the region.
