Oh the ports again.

I haven't much to add to this short note, other than the observation that the hysterical whinging on about 'national security' with respect to the Dubai Ports World disposal (and the relevant regulatory authority's rather queer position re a transfer fee) only serves to increase my contempt for the hysteria among US authorities of late.

Actually, I have to give points to Schumer for at least being consistent. I'm somewhat surprised that he hasn't backed his constituents, the Port Authority. It seems the NY Port Authority is trying a bit of extortion on the theory that DPW is having a fire sale. Rather than cave in, DPW has told the Port Authority to take a long walk off one of their own short piers and has suggested that the entire deal will collapse if the NYPA doesn't drop its demands.

As I understand it, DPW is under no legal obligation to sell its interests in U.S. ports. It would be just hilarious if they decided to keep them and then pinned the blame for the "fiasco" on New York.

A fair cop, I thought of that in writing my note, but my irritation with the idiocy re "security" overwhelmed my even-handedness. So yes, Schumer is at least being even-handed in his cretinous idiocy.

I would be indeed very amused to see the whole thing collapse and they be forced to live with DPW.
