Apres Bombing Business, Reflexions on Conducting Business in Casablanca
I am not entirely sure even how to classify this, but a moment to reflect on apres bombing business. I'm in town and have to achieve some things before flying on to some neighbours. However, this weekend rather fucked things up. Boom, boom.
I have to say that it is extraordinarily difficult to concentrate. First, everyone is talking about it. Second, the local papers charmingly published the photos of the bombers, charmingly blown in half. As I caught sight of this long distance, I can't say that I felt better about seeing it in colour on the front pages.
Then there is the business mtg interrupted by a paniced call from a man's wife who heard, falsely another bomb had gone off nearby to us. Really not conducive to getting various deals going.

Is the hysteria still on in Casa? My parents, who live downtown, tell me they're afraid of going out.

I am not sure about the hysteria. On Saturday afternoon, people were joyously going about wearing red shirts and celebrating the Wydad's victory in a soccer game; I participated in an event in the evening, and we thought that people would not come, but in fact the room was packed (about 200 wealthy people).

Well, certainly my financial partners are jumpy as hell.
And oddly they seem to think the Americans know everything - the Am. Cham. of Comm. I am told is holding a mtg and going to do a Sec Briefing, and this silly bankers want to attend. I suspect the Americans know fuck-all of what's going on, given none of their diplos I have ever met are even all that competent in French.
But who knows, perhaps they do? I'm sure one of these frightened bunnies will tell me all.
I simply prefer not to get blown up by a crew that doesn't even seem marginally competent. It would be humiliating. Get killed by Carlos the Jackel, well, that at least has style.
Accidentally killed by Mo the Confused and Smelly Suicide Bomber... No style in that. Well, I have to fly back to the Gulf shortly (as in whenever the office works out the fucking travel plans), but will back back again shortly thereafter I think.
