Obama & Image, MENA chatter
I have found myself oddly fascinated by the US election cycle of late, shared I have noted of late among the educated circles. Nevertheless, I have begun to hear odd things, such as an otherwise quite well educated Maghrebine financier assert Obama converted to Xianity late in life. Not said with rancor, rather as trivia.

Well, he did. I dunno if it's the Muslim smear making him appealing to the man, but he was agnostic into the 80's.
The muslim smear, making him a apostate, could be negative I'd assume.

Except for the really hardline people, the idea of someone in the US of A who wavered between religions isn't going to be too upsetting to most folks. I find even out in MENA the "Apostasy" thing usually only grabs comment if its tied to something else, or someone is being really quite flagrant (say becoming an Xtian and then proselytizing). Of course this is quite rare, nevertheless I have known a few people who did this, laid low, and more or less were left alone.
